Buying a Sensory Swing as a Gift: What to Know
Share
You've found the sensory swing that keeps turning up on gift lists for a grandchild, a niece, a nephew, or a friend's kid. It looks like a good gift. It also looks like something you shouldn't buy blind, since it hangs from the ceiling and isn't as simple as wrapping up a toy.
Here's what actually matters before you order one: what has to be true about the room it's going into, who installs it, what's in the box, and how to time it so it lands before the day you need it.
Check the Ceiling Before You Buy
The swing mounts into a structural beam or joist, or into suitable concrete. Never into drywall alone. That's the one rule worth knowing before anything else, because it's the difference between a swing that holds up for years and one that doesn't.
Most homes have joists behind the drywall, usually spaced about 16 or 24 inches apart, and a stud finder locates one in a few minutes. A finished basement or a room with a concrete ceiling works too, using the expansion bolts that come in the box instead of the lag screws. If you don't know the house well, or you're buying for a place you've never seen, that's the one thing worth a quick text to the parent before you order, not a surprise you discover after the box arrives.
Who Actually Installs It
Installing the swing is a normal weekend project, not a specialty job. It takes a stud finder, a drill, a 7/64 or 7/32 drill bit, a socket wrench, and safety glasses. Most people are done inside an hour: find the joist, mark and pre-drill the two bolt holes, drive the matched screws, clip the carabiner to the swivel, and clip the swing's strap loop on at the height you want.
The parent can do it themselves, a handy relative can install it as part of the gift, or it's a reasonable job to hand to someone who does small home jobs for pay. Whoever hangs it should pull down firmly and put real weight into the seat to test the mount before anyone sits in it, and give the swing and hardware a quick look before each use after that.
If you want the full walkthrough before you buy, we cover every step in how to hang a sensory swing.
What's in the Box
One swing order includes everything needed for a basic install:
- A 360-degree stainless swivel ceiling mount
- A locking oval carabiner, rated 17 kN
- Two lag screws, for wood joists
- Two expansion bolts, for concrete
- An adjustable daisy chain strap
- A gray drawstring storage bag with a script "saint esen" logo, for storing the swing when it's not in use
There's nothing else to buy for a straightforward install into a joist or concrete ceiling with a 6 to 9 foot ceiling height.
Sizes and Colors
There's one swing, one size, in three colors: Aspen Beige, Soft Sage, and Sweet Pink. Every color is the same $84.99, with the same fabric, the same hardware, and the same specs, so picking a color is really about the room or the kid's favorite, not a tradeoff between options.
The fabric is a double-layer nylon, two-way stretch compression fabric with double stitching, built to hold up to daily use without sagging to the floor or over-stretching. It holds up to 200 lbs in total, one rider or two, for ages 3 and up, with adult supervision.
Wrapping and Giving It
The swing packs down small for its size, since the fabric and all the hardware fit into the included storage bag, with a total packaged weight of about 3.6 lbs. That makes it manageable to wrap or box up yourself if you want the moment of opening it to feel like a real gift, rather than handing over a shipping box as-is.
If you'd rather the recipient open the actual box it ships in, that works fine too. Either way, it helps to let them know an install is coming, since the surprise of a swing is different from the surprise of a toy that works the moment it's unwrapped.
If Something's Not Right Later
A one-year warranty covers the swing, no exclusion list. If the fabric tears or the hardware fails within that year, we replace it. If a piece of hardware ever needs replacing on its own, a photo emailed to hello@saintesenswings.com is enough for us to send the part.
Thirty-day returns are unused or like new, and we pay the return shipping, so if the color or the fit turns out wrong for the room, it isn't money lost. Full detail is on our warranty and returns page.
Ordering in Time for the Holidays
We ship free within the US, with no international shipping. If you're buying for the holidays, order with real room for shipping to land before the day you need it. Cutoff dates for any retailer get tighter as December goes on, so earlier is safer than later.
If you're not sure it'll arrive in time, a card describing what's coming, with the swing to follow once it lands, is a normal and low-stress way to handle a gift that's running close to the date.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it arrive ready to hang?
It ships in the storage bag with all the mounting hardware included. Someone still needs to install it, about an hour with a drill and a stud finder, so it isn't a straight-out-of-the-box gift the way a toy is.
Should I ask the parent before I buy one?
It's worth a quick check. A swing needs a joist or suitable concrete and some drilling, so confirming there's a spot for it, and that nobody already has one, saves everyone a return later.
What if I don't know whether the ceiling has joists?
A stud finder answers that in a few minutes, and concrete ceilings work too with the included expansion bolts. Our installation guide and FAQ cover the mounting options in more detail if you want to check before you order.
Can it be returned if it's not right?
Yes. Thirty days, unused or like new, and we cover the return shipping.
Will it get here in time for the holidays?
We ship free from US stock, so order as early in December as you can. Earlier is always the safer bet, the same as with any gift on a deadline.
Does it ship internationally?
No, shipping is US only right now. If you're buying from outside the US for someone who lives there, you'll need a US address to send it to or someone local who can receive it.
