Questions and answers

Everything people ask us before they buy, and most of what they ask afterward. If yours is not here, write to us at hello@saintesenswings.com and a person will answer.

How much weight does the swing hold?

200 pounds, with one person in it at a time. That covers most kids and most adults. It is not a two-person swing, and putting two people in it loads the seams and the ceiling mount unevenly.

What ages is it for?

Ages 3 and up, always with an adult supervising. It is not built for babies or toddlers under 3. Older kids, teenagers and adults all use it.

What ceiling height do I need?

6 to 9 feet is the sweet spot, and the included daisy chain strap covers that range. Higher than 9 feet and you will want a second daisy chain to bring the seat down; any hardware or climbing store sells them for a few dollars. Lower than 6 feet works, you just get less room to swing.

Can I screw it into drywall?

No. Drywall will not hold a swinging load, and the few failures we have heard about all traced back to a mount that was not in solid structure. Go into a wood ceiling joist with the included lag screws, or into suitable concrete with the included expansion bolts. Nothing else.

How do I find the joist?

A stud finder is the fast way, and it is worth the twenty dollars. Mark both edges of the joist and drill in the middle. Tap along your line as a second check: over a joist it sounds solid, between joists it sounds hollow.

I rent my apartment. Can I still hang it?

It is two bolt holes in the ceiling, and they patch with a bit of spackle when you move out. Read your lease first, since some of them are strict about anchors. If drilling is out, hang it from a sturdy tree branch outside, or from a freestanding swing frame rated for the weight.

What comes in the box?

The swing, a 360 degree stainless swivel ceiling mount, a locking oval carabiner rated to 17 kN, two lag screws for wood, two expansion bolts for concrete, an adjustable daisy chain strap, a gray drawstring storage bag, and a printed installation and care card.

Does it spin?

Yes, and freely. The ceiling mount is a 360 degree swivel, so the fabric never winds up into a rope the way it does on a fixed hook. Keep spins slow, keep about three feet clear on every side, and keep an adult in the room.

Can I wash it?

Machine wash cold and tumble dry low. Take the hardware off first. When you put the daisy chain back on, attach it on the side of the swing that has the seam. Hanging it from the other side puts the load across the seam instead of along it, and that is how seams tear.

Can I use it outside?

Yes. Loop the daisy chain over a thick living branch or a play set beam and clip the carabiner at the height you want. Bring it inside when you are done: sun and weather wear any fabric, so a swing that comes in after each session keeps its color and its stretch for years.

Can adults use it?

Up to 200 pounds, yes. A lot of people buy it for a kid and end up in it themselves at nine at night. It is long enough to stretch out in and wide enough to sit sideways with a book.

How is nylon different from a cotton or lycra swing?

Ours is a double-layer nylon compression fabric. It has two-way stretch so it wraps and holds you, and the fibers are strong enough that it does not keep stretching out with use or sag down to the floor the way looser cotton swings can. Against skin it is softer than the thin lycra some swings use, and it dries faster after a wash.

Is this a medical or therapy device?

No. It is a swing for your home. Many occupational therapists use swings like this one for vestibular and proprioceptive input, so if an OT suggested a cocoon or compression swing, this is that kind of swing. What it does for any one person is between you and them.

Can two kids get in at once?

No. One person at a time, up to 200 pounds. Two kids swing out of sync, which loads the seams and the ceiling mount in ways they are not built for.

How long does installation take?

Minutes, once you have found the joist. Finding the joist and getting the mount square is the slow part. Most people are done inside half an hour on their first try.

What tools do I need?

A stud finder, a pencil, a drill with a 7/64 in bit for wood or a 7/32 in bit for concrete, a socket wrench, and safety glasses for the drilling.

Can I hang it from a tree?

Yes, from a thick living branch. Put the carabiner on the end of the daisy chain, throw the strap over the branch, and clip back at the height you want. Skip anything dead, cracked or thinner than your forearm, and check the branch again each season.

Do you sell a stand?

Not right now. If you use a freestanding indoor swing frame, make sure it is rated for at least the combined weight of the swing and the person in it, and clip in with the included carabiner rather than a hook.

Can I buy replacement hardware on its own?

We do not sell the hardware separately today. If a piece is missing from your box or something gets damaged, email us at hello@saintesenswings.com and we will get a replacement out to you.

Which color should I pick?

Aspen Beige is a warm oatmeal cream that disappears into most rooms. Soft Sage is a muted green that reads calm rather than kid. Sweet Pink is a dusty rose, and it is the one children choose most often. All three are the same swing, the same fabric and the same price.

How do I store it when I want the space back?

Unclip the carabiner, pull the fabric down, and it folds into the gray drawstring bag it shipped in. The ceiling mount stays up, so putting it back takes about ten seconds.

How fast do orders ship?

Orders ship from a US warehouse, usually the next business day, and most US addresses see it in two to five business days. Shipping is free inside the United States and you get tracking by email as soon as it leaves.

What is the return policy?

30 days from delivery, unused or in like-new condition, and we pay the return shipping. Email hello@saintesenswings.com and we will send a label.

What does the warranty cover?

The fabric and the hardware, for one year from the day you buy it. If the fabric tears or a part fails, we send you a replacement.

Send a photo of the problem to hello@saintesenswings.com and we will ship one out.

Is it a good gift?

It is one of the better ones we know of, and it ships in a compact box that is easy to wrap. Everything needed to hang it is inside. If it turns out to be the wrong call, the person you gave it to has 30 days to send it back.

Do you ship outside the United States?

Not yet. We ship to US addresses only, including PO boxes where the carrier allows it. If you are outside the US and want one, write to us and we will tell you when that changes.

Still deciding?

Tell us your ceiling height, who the swing is for, and where you want to hang it. Write to hello@saintesenswings.com and we will tell you whether it is a fit.
